Note - Death Certificate states Huldah was born in Iowa, have not found any other record showing Iowa.

Note -- Family Bible shows spelling to be "Huldah".

Huldah Jane was a woman of determination. At the age of 59, she managed to scrimp and save enough money to put a $50 down payment on a home in Independence. A small white house with a white picket fence, and a barn was situated on two city lots, located at 96 2nd street. Then again in June of 1912, Huldah managed to purchase additional land. Land records indicate that payment was made in full, for 160 acres located in Gilliam County. Most likely she rented out the land for additional income.

In November of 1912, Huldah Jane married Samuel Bennett. I find no records that she ever sold her home in Independence, so it is assumed that they continued to live there.

Per Alberta Ball, Huldah Jane's grandaughter: In the winter of 1918, there was a huge flu outbreak, with hundreds suffering, and Huldah Jane was one of those. The Hospital in Independence was not yet built, but all the hospitals in the Salem area were opening their doors durning the outbreak including the State Hospital for the Insane. This is where Huldah Jane was taken, but she did not recover and died there.

Birth date may be March 8th?

Email from Barbara Hartsook, March 2004:
Hi George;

I have been working on the Ball family again, trying to dig up information. I checked out Land Patients and found a few things. Halleck Ball purchased 160 acres of land in Jackson County in 1920, probably near Eagle Point. I find no record he ever sold the land. Also Elmer purchased 80 acres in Tillamook County, again no record he ever sold the property. And, do you remember me telling you about the letter I found, to Huldah Jane, from a Lawyer in Condon?
Well, I found a Land Patient showing she purchased 160 acres, paid in full, in 1912, in Gilliam County, Condon is the county seat. She purchased it a few months before she married Samuel Bennett.

I would assume, she rented out the land, for additional income. She never sold the land, but I do not know if she willed it to one of the kids, or if Samuel got everything. I do know he remarried a little less than 4 months after Huldah Jane died. I have never been able to find a Will for her.
